this was the car most prominently on display
I think the most interesting car I saw in the lot was a Velostar, turbo.
I saw exactly zero manual transmissions, despite looking int he window of all the Honda’s with “sport” tag on the rear

nope.
I was playing a mental game (to waste time during the oil change) of, if I was forced to drive a car for a year from here, which would I drive? I genuinely struggled.

The obvious choice is bumblebee’s flaccid (convertible) brother.

I eventually settled on the HRV.
we have a CRV, at the time pondered getting the HRV. so merely out of curiosity it’d be my pick. I suspect it would be a dull year of driving.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

Oh the cars pictured, and the Veloster, I’d go with the X1

My local Ford dealer had a restomoded 50s Chevy pickup out front all of last year. I think they finally sent it to auction. They we askin like 24000 for it.

2 years ago, I was seriously looking at a Sport 6 speed sedan and I I couldn’t find 1 single example at any of the three honda dealers on my 60 miles commute home.
Eventually, one of their inventories showed a manual in stock. So I stopped by the next day.
The salesman took my information, then proceeds to walk to the lot, to grab the car. Comes back after 15 mins.
It’s an automatic!
He says: it’s exactly the same car as the manual accord. You can test drive it.

I’m playing that game mentally all the time these days.
Even though I’ve accepted the fact that my dream daily driver will have to be built, it’s still not easy to decide which car to start with.

I was pleasantly surprised at the Chicago Auto Show last week, when I sat in this lovely new Accord Sport.

But useful and practical I’m sure. I would probably get the ridgeline and come up with some way to troll the domestic bro truck crowd.

Not surprising. Dealerships, and the salespeople, usually make far more profit on used cars than new ones. Much easier time doing so as well.
More importantly, flashy yellow “sports” car grabs the attention of passers by and stands out against everything else on the lot, breeding dreams and excitement, drawing people in. Once you’re on the lot, it’s all about getting you in the chair and figuring out what you can “afford”.

I was at the Toyota lot across the street driving a Land Cruiser last week. They had two on the lot with “clean” CARFAX reports. Both had poorly repaired front end damage (one of them looked like the fender was repainted with Rustoleum spray paint). The salesman tried to argue with me on the first one, the brand spanking new headlight next to the hazed 10 year old headlight and misaligned hood kinda gave it away. He kept calling, so I told him I’d take it for 2k. I haven’t heard back.

Went to my local Honda dealer today. All the cars were manual in the showroom and the vast majority were manual on the forecourt.
Four cars in one showroom (Jazz, CRV, Civic and HRV) and a red Civic Type-R by itself in a slightly larger showroom.
